State of Mind
In this blog, we will discuss some essential gym tips you should know before joining and committing to a gym. First of all, you need to make sure you are in the right state of mind. A lot of people make the same mistake when joining a gym. They pay and commit to a long-term contract and never end up going. Take your time, understand what you truly want and ensure you are going to the gym for the right reasons. When you force your self, the chances of you continuing and benefiting from the gym is very small.
Ensure your priorities are in the right place, as this can affect your gym attendance making progress go downhill. This is so you can focus all your efforts on improving your health and fitness. Also, not be distracted mentally and physically by other important tasks. So before committing to a gym, make sure that you have all your important assignments and duties taken care of.
Eating The Correct Diet
Having the right diet is a very important factor if you are looking to lose weight. If you don’t eat the right diet, the possibility of you losing weight is very small. The reason is that in order to lose weight we need to consume fewer calories than we burn off (Caloric Deficit). So, if we are eating calorie dense unhealthy foods like junk food or animal products. We will be fighting an uphill battle when we decide to commit to a gym. It’s like trying to open your door to success with the wrong key – no matter how hard you try to force your way through the door it won’t work. Instead, you can change your key (diet) and opening the door will be so much easier!
I have witnessed this countless times with friends who attended the gym every day and made zero improvements. Instead, they put on weight after days of hard work. All their efforts, time and money were wasted because they didn’t know the importance of food when losing weight. To read more about diet, visit our previous blog where we discuss this topic in more detail.
One thing to also keep in mind is that diet doesn’t always play a big part in your gym experience. For example, if you are happy with your weight and just want to build muscle and tone up. Then usually, you can continue the same diet without worrying about calorie deficit. However, if you go to the gym with the mindset that you will lose weight purely from going to the gym, then you are going with the wrong approach.
Listen to your body’s balance
Making sure you maintain the balance between rest and exercise is crucial if you want to succeed at the gym. Many people think that once they join a gym and pay for it, they need to make the most of it by going every day. They do not listen to their body when it has had enough and this will most likely have a negative effect. Ruining all your hard work when you inevitably get injured or burn out. So, getting quick results does not work! Our bodies need time to rest and recover to see any improvements. If you don’t provide this to your body and instead go all out, this can cause more harm than good.
Don’t forget to rest!
So remember, resting is just as important and deserves just as much of your focus and time than just working out. As during this resting period, depending on your goal (losing weight or gaining muscle) your body is doing a lot of work “behind the scene” to turn your goals into reality. Now bearing this in mind, having a strict plan may not be the most beneficial for your gym experience. This is because we cannot predict on a daily basis when our bodies are ready to work and rest, as we are all different. So instead, listen to your body in the present moment rather than setting specific dates and targets for the future.
For example, if you are feeling really weak or even ill on a day where you have planned to go to the gym and you go anyway. This will very likely cause you to have a bad experience and possibly put you off going to the gym altogether. Ultimately, ruining all the previous hard work you have put into yourself by being too strict. To summarise, forcing your body does more harm than good.
Gym Tips on How To Stay Committed!
By staying committed, this does not mean that we should overwork our bodies, as we mentioned previously. But instead, choose to go to the gym over small unnecessary lazy life choices, like going out with friends or playing video games. Stay committed to achieving the results you want for your health. By prioritize your personal growth over anything that may delay your progress.
